Mehrangarh's Warrior Legacy

The current temple was rebuilt after independence, championed personally by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister, who saw its restoration as a symbol of the newly independent nation reclaiming its heritage. The temple was formally reopened in 1951.

The Crossing to Bet Dwarka

A short boat ride from the mainland takes visitors to Bet Dwarka, considered Krishna's actual residence in local belief. The crossing itself, aboard small, crowded wooden boats alongside pilgrims making the same journey, tends to be one of the more memorable, unscripted parts of the entire trip.

Udaipur to Jodhpur is a comfortable few hours by road or a short flight, while Jodhpur to Somnath and on to Dwarka involves longer stretches of road travel through Gujarat's Saurashtra region — a stretch worth timing for October through March, when Rajasthan's heat has broken and Gujarat's coastal humidity around Somnath and Dwarka has eased off too.
